India need only draw with South Africa in the upcoming two-match series starting from 6th February 2010 to retain the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings. But if they lose the series, being billed as a world championship bout, they stand to lose the US$175,000 the ICC gives to the team that is on top come April 1.

1st Test played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur.

India startet well by taking two wickets for 6 runs. But from there on it was all South Africa because of the fabulous partnership between Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla. At the end of day 1, South Africa were 291 for 2. Here are the highlights of day 1.

3rd day also goes to South Africa. Or to say it better, it was Dale Steyn day. He took a career-best 7 for 51 to put South Africa in command. His after tea spell of 3.4-2-3-5 with the old ball was one of the most lethal and joyful spells of pace and swing seen in India.

Here are the highlights of the third days play.

It was South Africa again. Despite a fighting century from Sachin Tendulkar (his third in consecutive Tests) India couldn't avoid an innings defeat. South Africa won the first test by an innings and 6 runs to take 1-0 lead in the series. Now India is under pressure to level the series to keep their ICC No.1 place.

It was the first test defeat for MS Dhoni as captain and he admitted that India were completely outplayed in this test.

Graeme Smith gave the credit of the win to the team but didn't forget to mention Amla, Kallis and Steyn for the special individual performances. Hashim Amla is Man of the Match for his 253.

Here are the highlights of the 4th days play.
